The Malayala Manorama will uphold the glorious tradition set by its legendary ?editors, said Mammen Mathew as he assumed charge as Chief Editor and Managing Director of the iconic Malayalam newspaper on August 18. The eldest son of Chief Editor K.M. Mathew, who passed away on August 1, Mammen, 65, worked in the Western Mail, Cardiff, The Sunday Times, London, the Oklahoma City Times and the Daily Oklahoman before joining the Manorama four decades ago.

South India’s most desirable villain Prakash Raj married his girlfriend, Bollywood choreographer Pony Verma. The ceremony, held in Mumbai, was attended by family and close friends only. Raj and Verma hosted a reception, thereafter, which was attended by friends Rani Mukherjee, Govinda and Tabu. After his character roles, can we hope to see Raj shake a leg now? At least he would dance to Pony’s steps!

It is high time India realised its rich heritage and returned to its roots (‘We are liking this only!’ August 15). We always take pride in aping the west. But the article shows that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
